Patio Doors – Sliding, Folding or Simply Open Wide?

"As the weather gets warmer and thoughts of spending time in the garden replace those of being snuggled up on the sofa, there is no better time to look at ways to bring the outside…"

The days are getting longer, the sunshine is starting to peep through the clouds and the unmistakable signs of dewy yellow daffodils are starting to rear their heads as the first delightful hints of spring grace us with their presence. As the weather gets warmer and thoughts of spending time in the garden replace those of being snuggled up on the sofa, there is no better time to look at ways to bring the outside in with a beautiful set of patio doors.

From bifolds, to french doors, PremiFold to sliding doors, Ironglaze offer a vast range of patio doors to suit all needs and requirements, whether you’re looking for a modern sleek finish or a traditional homely feel.

It goes without saying that glass panelled doors cause some heat loss in your home. However, with modern materials and engineering, we are able to offer a selection of guaranteed energy efficient doors, allowing as little heat to escape as possible. Most modern doors are fitted with double glazing to insulate and keep the cold out, with some even employing triple glazing for more protection from the elements.

Which style is right for you and your home?

Bi-folds – It’s easy to assume from the name that bifold doors offer just 2 panels and they fold! The latter is correct, but bifold can in-fact offer unto 6 panels depending on your needs. They used to go by many different names such as folding doors and concertina doors but the term ‘bifold’ has been adopted by manufacturers and consumers alike. Bifold doors are widely known to outperform older styles of patio door and most have a low U value, making them a great investment for your home.

Premifold / slide doors – With no visible hinges, this style of patio doors, offers a great level of freedom and flexibility whilst maximising light and ventilation in a room. Not only do they slide open, but they also swing completely to the side, creating a large open space and allowing an abundance of light to shine through. Thermally insulated and offering maximum security, these patio doors are a great option.

French doors – Probably the most traditional form of patio doors, French doors offer a simple, yet stylish opening . Available in styles which add a quintessential, charming country garden touch to your home or garden, French doors are a practical, simple way of prolonging summer evenings and bringing an element of the outdoors inside.

Sliding doors – Often coming with larger frames of glass to bifold doors and therefore fewer obstructions, this form of patio doors has increased in popularity over the years. Partially owing to the ability to open up even the smallest of spaces. Available in 2 or 3 panels, these doors offer low U-value, meaning they not only look great, but offer great energy efficiency.
